Serum testosterone and estrogen concentrations in the Holstein-Friesian bull after successive ejaculations
American Journal of Veterinary Research
|April 1, 1976
Abstract:
The testosterone and estrogen concentrations in venous serum of 4 mature Holstein-Friesian bulls were determined by radioimmunoassay before and after each of 3 consecutive semen collections taken at 1-hour intervals. The hormonal concentrations were highly variable for the 2 steroids, but uniform in their patterns after the bulls had ejaculated. After the 3rd semen collection, marked changes in hormonal concentrations did not occur.

Testes: Histology
A tough, fibrous membrane, the tunica albuginea, covers the testes, extending inward to form fibrous partitions or septa, dividing them into internal compartments called lobules. Each lobule has 1 to 3 tightly coiled seminiferous tubules where sperm production occurs. These tubules merge into a tubular network at the back of the testis, known as the rete testis. It connects to 15 to 20 efferent ductules, leading to the epididymis.

Sperm Structure and Semen Composition
During ejaculation, males release around 2-5 milliliters of semen, which is a complex mixture of mature sperm and various fluids produced by accessory glands. The mature sperm cells measure approximately 60 micrometers in length and consist of a head, neck, midpiece, and tail. The head is flattened and tapered, measuring about 4 to 5 micrometers in length. It contains a nucleus with condensed chromosomes and an acrosome, a cap-like structure filled with enzymes essential for penetrating the...
Male Sexual Response: Erection & Ejaculation
Sexual stimulation can take various forms, such as physical touch and visual or auditory cues. When this happens, the parasympathetic reflex in the sacral portion of the spinal cord is activated. This reflex stimulates the release of nitric oxide (NO), which then dilates the arterioles in the penis, increasing blood flow to the erectile tissues - the corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum.
