Summary

Reactive lymphoid hyperplasia of the uvea, a lymphocytic proliferation, can extend to orbital and systemic sites. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for this low-malignant condition.

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Reactive lymphoid hyperplasia (RLH) primarily involves the uveal tract.
  • It is generally considered a low-malignant condition.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with uncontrollable glaucoma and retinal detachment without a break.
  • Imaging revealed diffuse choroidal thickening.
  • Over six years, the condition progressed to ocular and orbitary invasion and bone marrow infiltration.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent enucleation and chemotherapy.
  • Apparent total remission was achieved post-treatment.

Implications:

  • This case demonstrates the potential for orbital and systemic extension of RLH, even when initially presenting as a localized uveal condition.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Highlights the need for vigilant monitoring and potentially aggressive treatment strategies for RLH to prevent advanced disease progression.
