Background:

  • Ulcerative pododermatitis is a challenging condition in cats.
  • Diagnosis can be difficult, often requiring histopathology.

Observation:

  • A 9-year-old castrated male Chartreaux cat presented with severe ulcerative pododermatitis affecting all four paws.
  • Initial clinical examination and supportive therapy were inconclusive.

Findings:

  • Histopathology revealed ulcerative eosinophilic dermatitis.
  • Epidermal and dermal nematodes and ova consistent with Anatrichosoma sp. were identified.
  • Treatment with ivermectin resulted in complete resolution of skin lesions.

Implications:

  • Anatrichosomiasis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of feline ulcerative pododermatitis, particularly in the southwestern United States.
