Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Background:

  • Endoscope-assisted forehead lifting (EAFL) utilizes various soft tissue fixation methods.
  • Initial EAFL procedures employed stainless steel and absorbable screws for fixation.
  • Metallic screws were associated with negative effects, prompting a shift in fixation materials.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To share clinical experience with bioabsorbable screws in EAFL.
  • To highlight improvements in soft tissue fixation techniques for EAFL.
  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of bioabsorbable screws in endoscopic facial surgery.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective review of endoscopic-assisted forehead lifting surgeries performed over four years.
  • Comparison of fixation methods, specifically stainless steel screws versus bioabsorbable (polylactic acid copolymer) screws.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Analysis of patient outcomes and complications associated with different screw types.
  • Main Results:

    • Ninety-nine patients underwent EAFL procedures.
    • Sixty-one patients were treated using bioabsorbable screws for fixation.
    • Excellent surgical outcomes were achieved with bioabsorbable screws, with no significant complications reported.

    Conclusions:

    • Bioabsorbable screws represent a significant advancement in soft tissue fixation for EAFL.
    • The use of bioabsorbable screws enhances the safety and efficacy of endoscopic facial surgery.
    • This method offers a reliable and improved alternative for fixation in EAFL procedures.
