Background:

  • Monoclonal gammopathy (MG) can lead to various kidney involvements.
  • Light-chain deposition disease (LCDD) is a significant manifestation of MG, characterized by the deposition of light chains in tissues.

Observation:

  • Renal lesions are common, serious, and well-documented complications of LCDD.
  • A cohort of six patients diagnosed with LCDD via renal biopsy showed decreased renal function at diagnosis.
  • One patient required hemodialysis treatment.

Findings:

  • The pathophysiology of LCDD involves the deposition of immunoglobulin light chains or their stable domains.
  • Monoclonal immunoglobulin overproduction, characteristic of MG, underlies LCDD.
