Summary

Cinema noise levels from four films were measured, with average sound levels below 80 dB(A). Although brief peaks above 90 dB(A) occurred, evidence suggests cinema sound does not pose a hearing damage risk.

  • Based on this study, there is no evidence to suggest that current cinema sound levels cause permanent hearing damage.
  • Further research with a larger sample of films and cinemas may be warranted.
