A rare case of recurrent Wilms

Area of Science:

  • Pediatric Oncology
  • Thoracic Surgery

Background:

  • Wilms' tumor is a common pediatric kidney cancer.
  • Late recurrence of Wilms' tumor is uncommon.

Observation:

  • A 14-year-old female presented with bilateral pneumothoraces.
  • This occurred 10 years after initial Wilms' tumor treatment.

Findings:

  • The bilateral pneumothoraces were secondary to recurrent Wilms' tumor.
  • This presentation is unprecedented in medical literature.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of long-term surveillance for Wilms' tumor survivors.
  • Suggests potential for late, unusual presentations of recurrent Wilms' tumor.
