Nutrition education for medical students. I. What is it? Where has it been? Why should it be taught?

After an eight-year experience of introducing nutrition into the medical school curriculum of a new medical school, the author reflects on the state of the art. Questions are raised: What is nutrition? Is it part of medical education? If not, why not? Why should it be taught? The article ends with a note of optimism with reference to nutrition education in medical schools.
