Summary

Nucleosomes are key in lupus (SLE) and tissue damage. Desoxyribonuclease 1 (DNase 1) breaks down nucleosomes, and its actin-resistant forms show promise for treating SLE.

Background:

  • Nucleosomes are the primary autoantigen in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
  • Immune complexes involving nucleosomes are the main drivers of tissue damage in SLE.
