    Summary

    Skin fibroblasts from Huntington's disease patients showed no difference in initial growth but reached higher densities in culture. This finding challenges previous research on Huntington's disease cell growth.

    Background:

    • Huntington's disease (HD) is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder.
    • Previous studies suggested impaired skin fibroblast growth in HD patients.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate skin fibroblast growth in Huntington's disease patients compared to healthy controls.
    • To reconcile conflicting findings regarding fibroblast proliferation in HD.

    Main Methods:

    • Culturing skin fibroblasts from 10 HD patients and 8 healthy controls.
    • Assessing cell outgrowth from biopsies and routine culture growth rates.
    • Measuring maximal cell density achieved in culture.

    Main Results:

    • No significant differences in initial cell outgrowth or routine culture growth rates were observed.
    • Huntington's disease fibroblasts reached a significantly higher maximal density compared to controls (P < 0.02).
