Objectives:
Arterial hypertension is an important cause of preterm delivery. It affects 5 to 10% of pregnancies.
Design:
The main aim of the study was to find the correlation between antythrombin III and D-dimers concentration in hypertension-affected and healthy pregnant women. The study was carried out in Clinic of Pathology Pregnancy in A.M. Lodz in 1999-2001.
Material And Methods:
The study group consist of 47 pregnant women with HA, the control group of 30 healthy pregnant women at the same gestational age. The concentrations of AT III and D-dimers were compared between groups.
Results:
The mean concentration of AT III in group of hypertensive women was lower than in normotensive ones. D-dimers concentration was in 18% of the hypertensive group elevated.
Conclusions:
In hypertensive pregnancy the coagulation parameters were weakened.

Special considerations while measuring blood pressure
Monitoring Both Arms:
Monitoring BP in both arms during the initial assessment is advisable, as the systolic value may differ by five to ten mm Hg between arms. For subsequent BP assessments, use the arm with the higher reading.
