Area of Science:

  • Medical Imaging
  • Obstetrics
  • Fetal Medicine

Background:

  • Gray scale ultrasound is a standard imaging tool for prenatal diagnosis of fetal congenital anomalies.
  • Precise diagnosis of some fetal anomalies can be challenging with gray scale ultrasound alone.

Observation:

  • A case of omphalocele with short lower limbs was detected in the third trimester.
  • Initial diagnosis using gray scale ultrasound was inconclusive.

Findings:

  • Color Doppler ultrasound significantly improved the accuracy of fetal anomaly diagnosis.
  • The diagnosis of omphalocele with short lower limbs was confirmed using Color Doppler sonography.

Implications:

  • Color Doppler ultrasound is a valuable complementary tool for diagnosing complex fetal anomalies.
