Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Mid-dermal elastolysis (MDE) is an exceptionally rare elastolytic disorder.
  • It is characterized by a distinctive bandlike loss of elastic fibers confined to the mid dermis.

Observation:

  • A case of MDE is presented in a healthy woman with no prior skin conditions.
  • The condition developed gradually over time.

Findings:

  • The patient exhibited symptoms of fine wrinkling and perifollicular papules.
  • The histopathological findings confirmed the characteristic mid-dermal loss of elastic fibers.

Implications:

  • This case contributes to the limited understanding of MDE.
  • Further research into the pathogenesis of MDE is warranted.
