Background:

  • Congenital gingival granular cell tumors (CGGC) are rare, benign intraoral neoplasms.
  • Also known as congenital epulis or Neumann's tumor, they originate from the alveolar ridge.

Observation:

  • A large, obstructive CGGC of the mandibular ridge was detected prenatally via ultrasound.
  • The tumor presented as a mass protruding from the newborn's mouth, causing airway obstruction.

Findings:

  • Complete surgical excision was performed with a successful postoperative recovery.
  • Histologic and immunohistochemical analyses, including S-100 protein staining, confirmed the diagnosis.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of prenatal diagnosis for obstructive neonatal masses.
