Summary

Nitrogen removal via nitrite is feasible in anoxic/oxic (A/O) processes for domestic wastewater treatment under specific conditions. Optimal nitrogen removal via nitrite occurs between 18-25°C and pH below 7.5, with careful management of free ammonia and hydraulic retention time.
