Summary

The Allen Cognitive Levels Screen (ACL-90) effectively screens adolescent cognitive function. Community-dwelling adolescents scored higher than those in mental health facilities, validating the ACL-90.

Background:

The Allen Cognitive Levels Screen (ACL-90) is a tool used to assess cognitive functional performance.
Validating assessment tools is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning in adolescent mental health.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the validity of the Allen Cognitive Levels Screen (ACL-90 version) in assessing cognitive functional performance in adolescents.
To compare cognitive performance between community-dwelling adolescents and those in residential mental health facilities.

Main Methods:

Sixty-three adolescents were assessed using the ACL-90.
Participants were divided into two groups: 32 community-dwelling adolescents and 28 residing in residential mental health facilities.

A one-tailed t test revealed statistically significant higher performance scores for community-dwelling adolescents compared to those in residential mental health facilities (t(34) = 4.3, p < .001).

Conclusions:

The findings support the validity of the ACL-90 for screening cognitive functional performance in adolescents.
The ACL-90 can differentiate cognitive abilities between adolescents in different living environments.
