Mammals possess two twinfilin proteins, twinfilin-1 and twinfilin-2, that bind actin monomers. Twinfilin-2, previously uncharacterized, also binds actin and regulates cytoskeletal dynamics, but has distinct expression and regulation from twinfilin-1.
