Background:

  • Acute spinal cord ischemia is challenging to detect with conventional MRI.
  • Susceptibility artifacts limit the use of diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) in spinal imaging.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the diagnostic value of echoplanar DWI for early confirmation of spinal cord ischemia.
  • To evaluate the utility of DWI in detecting acute spinal cord ischemia.

Main Methods:

  • Conventional MRI and echoplanar DWI were performed on five patients with suspected acute spinal cord ischemia.
  • Imaging was conducted 9-46 hours post-symptom onset and again 2-9 days later.
  • Apparent diffusion coefficients were measured to confirm diffusion changes.
