Summary

Nilvadipine effectively lowers blood pressure in patients with hypertension, regardless of renal function. An 8 mg daily dose of this calcium channel blocker is safe and well-tolerated in individuals with mild to moderate kidney impairment.

  • To evaluate the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of nilvadipine in hypertensive patients with varying degrees of renal function.
  • To determine the safety and efficacy of a single daily dose of 8 mg nilvadipine.

Main Methods:

  • 16 patients with arterial hypertension were divided into two groups based on renal function (creatinine clearance 15-50 ml/min vs. >80 ml/min).
  • Patients received 8 mg nilvadipine once daily for 10 days after a placebo washout period.
