Summary

Blue light therapy did not improve plaque psoriasis in patients with increased endogenous protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) levels. Multiple blue light exposures did not significantly alter psoriasis severity scores.

  • To evaluate the efficacy of repeated blue light exposure for treating plaque psoriasis.
  • To investigate the impact of blue light on endogenous PpIX in psoriasis.

Main Methods:

  • 17 plaque psoriasis patients with high endogenous PpIX were enrolled.
  • Plaques received 12 blue light (10 J/cm²) exposures over 4 weeks; severity was blinded.
  • In vivo fluorescence spectroscopy measured PpIX levels weekly.
