Abstract:
As quality management in hospitals has evolved, many different approaches have been used to develop a method that can be replicated from one hospital to another. I believe the best approach may be to develop a method that accepts and takes advantage of the uniqueness of individual hospitals or health systems. Action learning is one process that may have application. Originally developed for industry, many of the principles of action learning can easily be adapted in settings where clinical practitioners can take advantage of each individual's knowledge and experience.
