Hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors (statins) show significant benefits beyond coronary artery disease. Evidence supports their use in acute coronary syndromes, stroke prevention, and potential roles in peripheral arterial disease, renal disease, and diabetes mellitus.
