Summary

Severe uveitis in children may be linked to developing psoriasis and arthritis. This association, even in patients negative for antinuclear antibodies and HLA-B27, warrants clinical consideration.

Background:

Uveitis is a severe intraocular inflammation that can be challenging to manage in pediatric patients.
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition.
Arthritis involves joint inflammation.

Observation:

Two pediatric cases presented with severe, treatment-resistant uveitis.
Subsequently, both patients developed psoriasis, specifically in the pubic region.
One patient also experienced intermittent arthritis.

Findings:

Neither patient tested positive for antinuclear antibodies (ANA) or HLA-B27.
The clinical course suggests a potential link between uveitis, psoriasis, and arthritis in children.

Implications:

Clinicians should consider the possibility of associated psoriasis and/or arthritis in children presenting with severe uveitis.
This association may occur independently of ANA and HLA-B27 status.
Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms connecting these conditions.
