  • To compare plasma magnesium concentrations between type 2 diabetic patients and healthy controls in Switzerland.

  • Plasma magnesium concentrations were measured in 109 type 2 diabetic patients.
  • Plasma magnesium concentrations were measured in 156 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

Main Results:

  • Diabetic patients had significantly lower mean plasma magnesium concentrations (0.77 +/- 0.08 mmol/L) compared to controls (0.83 +/- 0.07 mmol/L).
