    Summary

    Marrow transplants between mothers and sons were explored, finding that mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) incompatibility may predict graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) risk rather than bone marrow rejection. This suggests potential for transplants between MLC-reactive individuals with better GVHD control.

    Background:

    • Bone marrow transplantation is crucial for aplastic anemia and leukemia.
    • Histocompatibility at HLA loci (serological and MLC) is typically required for successful sibling transplants.
    • Limited options exist for histoincompatible marrow donors.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the feasibility of marrow transplantation from histoincompatible mothers to male recipients.
    • To assess the correlation between mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) incompatibility and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) or bone marrow rejection.
