Proopiomelanocortin (POMC) peptides, like alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), regulate human sebaceous lipid production. Melanocortin 5 receptor (MC5-R) expression correlates with sebocyte differentiation and lipid synthesis.
