Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Endoscopy
  • Pathology

Context:

  • Gastric epithelial polyps are diagnosed during upper digestive system endoscopies.
  • A 5-year study analyzed 64 gastric polyps in 18 patients.

Purpose:

  • To analyze endoscopic and histological characteristics of gastric epithelial polyps.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of endoscopic monitoring post-polypectomy.

Summary:

  • Most polyps (93.75%) were under 1 cm and safely removed endoscopically.
  • Hyperplastic polyps were most common (43.75%), followed by adenomas (12.5%) and adenocarcinomas (3.12%).
  • Endoscopic follow-up is essential, especially for adenomatous polyps, with 25% recurrence observed in this series.

Impact:
