Area of Science:

  • Gynecology
  • Urology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Endometriosis is defined as the ectopic presence of endometrial tissue.
  • Vesical endometriosis, specifically, is an uncommon manifestation, accounting for only 1-2% of all endometriosis locations.
  • Diagnosis of vesical endometriosis is often challenging due to its rarity and varied presentation.

Observation:

  • A 35-year-old woman presented with symptoms suggestive of a bladder tumor.
  • Endoscopic examination revealed a solid tumor with characteristic bluish bullae or cysts within the vesical cavity.
  • These findings were consistent with vesical endometriosis.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with vesical endometriosis.
  • Endoscopic surgery was performed for the removal of the endometrial foci.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Adjuvant treatment with Gestrima (2.5 mg twice weekly) was administered post-operatively.
  • Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of considering endometriosis in the differential diagnosis of bladder lesions.
    • The successful use of Gestrima as an adjuvant therapy suggests a potential new treatment avenue for vesical endometriosis.
    • Further research is warranted to establish the efficacy and safety of Gestrima in managing this rare condition.
