Summary

Adding daily exercise to a high-carbohydrate diet can lower leptin levels. This study found that moderate exercise suppressed fasting and postprandial leptin concentrations in postmenopausal women.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of incorporating daily exercise into a short-term high-carbohydrate diet on fasting and postprandial leptin levels.
  • To assess the relationship between insulin, insulin sensitivity, and leptin concentrations.

Main Methods:

  • Eight healthy, postmenopausal women participated in a controlled dietary intervention study.
  • Plasma leptin, glucose, and insulin levels were measured after consuming a mixed meal under three conditions: low-carbohydrate diet, high-carbohydrate diet, and high-carbohydrate diet with daily exercise.
