Summary

Post-menopausal hormone therapy improves bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition. Increased lean mass and altered fat distribution were observed, with lean mass showing the strongest positive correlation with BMD improvements.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of tibolone and estradiol plus norethisterone acetate (E2 + NETA) on body composition and BMD in post-menopausal women.
  • To assess the relationship between changes in body composition and BMD during hormone therapy.

Main Methods:

  • 109 post-menopausal women received tibolone (2.5 mg or 1.25 mg) or E2 + NETA.
  • Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry assessed body composition and BMD.
