Summary

Pediatric irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is diagnosed in children with functional gastrointestinal disorders, abdominal pain, and psychogenic factors. Management involving counseling and drug therapy significantly improved symptoms within weeks.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common adult gastrointestinal disorder.
Pediatric recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) shares similarities with adult IBS.

To define diagnostic criteria for pediatric IBS.
To report on the prevalence and characteristics of pediatric IBS cases.
