This case study highlights a rare instance of membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN) co-occurring with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and non-Hodgkin

Background:

  • Membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN) in adults is often linked to systemic diseases like SLE or malignancies.
  • Malignancy-associated glomerulonephritis is infrequently observed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).
  • Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is implicated in the pathogenesis of both SLE and NHL.

Observation:

  • A 37-year-old woman presented with nephrotic syndrome and clinical SLE.
  • Renal biopsy confirmed lupus MGN.
  • The patient also had progressive lymphadenopathy diagnosed as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (a type of NHL).

Findings:

  • Serologic tests confirmed Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection.
  • Specific EBV antigens were detected in lymph node and metastatic tissues.
