Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Radiology
  • Trauma Care

Background:

  • Posterior shoulder dislocation is an uncommon but serious injury.
  • Early and accurate diagnosis is essential to prevent complications.

Observation:

  • A case of posterior shoulder dislocation in a trauma patient is presented.
  • Standard radiographic views may obscure this type of dislocation.

Findings:

  • A high index of suspicion is necessary for diagnosing posterior shoulder dislocation.
  • Axillary radiographic views are critical for identifying posterior shoulder dislocations in trauma settings.

Implications:

  • Radiographic protocols for shoulder trauma should include axillary views.
