Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Reconstructive Surgery

Background:

  • Penile loss presents significant challenges for patients.
  • Effective reconstructive options are crucial for restoring function and quality of life.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the efficacy of the scapular free flap for penile reconstruction.
  • To evaluate functional and aesthetic outcomes following this reconstructive approach.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of six patients with penile loss underwent reconstruction.
  • Scapular free flaps were transferred and combined with Malleable penile prosthesis implantation.

Main Results:

  • Complete flap survival was achieved in all cases.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Follow-up assessments (6-12 months) revealed excellent penile configuration.
  • Good functional outcomes were reported post-reconstruction.
  • Conclusions:

    • The scapular free flap technique is a promising method for penile reconstruction.
    • This approach provides satisfactory aesthetic and functional results.
