Background:

  • Elevated amylase levels in pleural effusion confirmed the diagnosis.
  • One patient died from aspiration pneumonia after conservative treatment and refusal of further care.
  • Two male patients recovered following pancreatic resection.

Implications:

  • Prompt diagnosis of pancreaticopleural fistula is essential for favorable outcomes.
  • Surgical intervention, such as pancreatic resection, can be life-saving.
  • Increased awareness among clinicians is needed to improve early detection and management.
