This study found no significant link between dietary antioxidant intake and primary open-angle glaucoma risk. Researchers examined carotenoids, vitamins C and E, and vitamin A in large health studies, observing no strong associations.

Purpose of the Study:

  • Utilized data from the Nurses' Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, including over 116,000 participants aged 40+.

    Conclusions:

    • The study did not find evidence to support a strong association between the consumption of common dietary antioxidants and the risk of primary open-angle glaucoma.
    • Further research may be needed to explore other dietary factors or mechanisms in POAG development.
