Summary

Serum ICTP is a better marker than SHBG for identifying thyroid hormone overexposure in women with endogenous subclinical hyperthyroidism. This study found higher ICTP levels in pretoxic goiter patients compared to controls.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate serum ICTP and SHBG in multinodular goiter with or without endogenous subclinical hyperthyroidism.
  • To compare the efficacy of ICTP and SHBG in identifying peripheral thyroid hormone overexposure.
  • To explore correlations between these markers and thyroid function tests.

  • Study included 45 women with multinodular goiter, divided into pretoxic goiter and non-toxic goiter groups.

    • ICTP levels reflect the degree of thyroid hormone excess in multinodular goiter.
    • SHBG's utility may be confounded by estrogenic status.
