Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Hepatobiliary Surgery

Background:

  • Diffuse biliary papillomatosis is an exceptionally rare bile duct tumor.
  • It presents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge due to its diffuse nature and low-grade malignant potential.

Observation:

  • A case of diffuse biliary papillomatosis involving both intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts is presented.
  • The patient presented with obstructive jaundice, a common complication of biliary tumors.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention using a transhepatic stent was performed for treatment.
  • This approach aimed to alleviate the obstructive jaundice and manage the tumor.

Implications:

  • This case contributes to the limited literature on managing diffuse biliary papillomatosis.
  • Surgical management with stenting may be a viable option for selected cases presenting with obstructive jaundice.
