Musical alexia for rhythm notation: a discrepancy between pitch and rhythm.

Background:

A patient with Wernicke's aphasia exhibited musical alexia and agraphia, primarily with unfamiliar melodies.
Detailed assessment revealed preserved pitch reading abilities.
Rhythm reading was severely impaired when musical elements were separated.

This case demonstrates a selective deficit in rhythm reading, distinct from pitch reading.
It provides the first evidence for an isolated disorder of rhythm reading.
