Summary

This case report details an invasive mole that spread to the urinary bladder, a previously undocumented metastasis. Treatment involved tumor resection, leading to spontaneous regression of serum chorionic gonadotropin levels.

Area of Science:

  • Gynecology
  • Urology
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) encompasses a spectrum of placental-related tumors.
  • Invasive mole, a form of GTD, typically requires chemotherapy for metastatic disease.
  • Urinary bladder metastasis from GTD is exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with hematuria one month post-molar pregnancy evacuation.
  • A tumor was identified in the urinary bladder.
  • Serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels were monitored.

Findings:

  • The urinary bladder tumor was diagnosed as an invasive mole metastasis.
  • Transurethral cystoscopic resection of the bladder tumor was performed.
  • Post-operatively, serum hCG levels regressed spontaneously to normal.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • This case highlights the urinary bladder as a potential, albeit rare, site for invasive mole metastasis.
  • Spontaneous regression of hCG post-resection suggests localized disease control.
  • Further investigation into the behavior and management of rare GTD metastatic sites is warranted.
