Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenomas are exceptionally rare neoplasms.
  • Limited case reports highlight diagnostic and histogenetic challenges.

Observation:

  • This report details an additional case of retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma.
  • The case underscores the rarity and diagnostic difficulties associated with these tumors.

Findings:

  • Preoperative diagnosis of retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma is consistently challenging.
  • Surgical resection is currently the definitive management approach.

Implications:

  • Further research into the histogenesis of these rare tumors is warranted.
