Background:

  • Xanthogranulomatous cystitis (XC) is a rare, benign chronic inflammatory bladder disease with an unknown cause.
  • This condition is infrequently documented, with only 19 previous cases reported worldwide.

Observation:

  • A 70-year-old woman presented with symptoms including urinary frequency, post-void pain, and lower abdominal discomfort.
  • Cystoscopy identified a bladder mass near the dome and left wall.
  • Enhanced CT revealed a cystic mass within the bladder.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent partial cystectomy due to the inability to definitively rule out bladder neoplasm.
  • Post-operative follow-up confirmed no recurrence of XC 29 months after surgery.
