Background:

  • Cryptococcosis is a significant opportunistic infection in patients with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
  • Intracranial mass lesions are an uncommon but serious complication of cryptococcosis in immunocompromised individuals.
  • Accurate diagnosis is essential as other conditions mimic cryptococcoma.

Observation:

  • A 28-year-old male with AIDS presented with altered mental status, seizures, and fever.
  • Brain imaging revealed an occipital lobe mass lesion.
  • Histopathology and culture confirmed Cryptococcus neoformans, diagnosing brain cryptococcoma.

Findings:

  • The patient was successfully treated with intravenous amphotericin B followed by oral fluconazole.
