Abstract:
School meals are a valuable opportunity to provide children with a nutritious meal and to teach children about healthy eating. It is a service on which many children, and parents, still rely. Since 1980, however, school meals have not had to meet any minimum nutritional standards and the service has become increasingly cost-orientated due to budget constraints. Gill Cawdron looks at the school nurse's role in relation to two initiatives in school meals: the School Meals Campaign and the School Meals Assessment Project.
