Background:

  • Transitional tumor of bladder pT1G3 represents 19% of superficial bladder tumors.
  • Study included 24 patients diagnosed between January 1996 and December 2000.

Observation:

  • Two patients underwent immediate cystectomy due to unverifiable tumors via endoscopy.
  • One patient had a cystectomy after a second resection revealed a pT2 tumor.
  • Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) therapy was administered to only 5 patients (24%).

Findings:

  • A recurrence without progression was observed in 38% of cases.
  • Tumor progression occurred in 19% of patients.
  • Patients who underwent cystectomy for progression showed no recurrence at a 28-month follow-up.
