Summary
Reduced placental interleukin-10 (IL-10) in pre-eclampsia is not due to altered IL-10 receptor distribution. Both normal and pre-eclamptic pregnancies show similar IL-10 receptor presence in extravillous trophoblast cells.

- IL-10 receptors were found in higher concentrations in decidual trophoblast cells compared to villous cytotrophoblast cells across all groups.
- No significant difference in the intensity and density of extravillous trophoblast staining for IL-10 receptors was observed between normal pregnancy (45% +/- 12%) and pre-eclampsia (27% +/- 12%).
Conclusions:
- IL-10 receptors are predominantly located in extravillous (decidual) trophoblast.
- The observed decrease in IL-10 production in pre-eclampsia is not attributable to altered IL-10 receptor distribution in placental tissues.
