Background:

Radial Keratotomy (RK) was a common surgical procedure for myopia correction.
Understanding the long-term outcomes of RK is crucial for patient management.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the long-term results and complications of Radial Keratotomy performed between 1980 and 1991.

Main Methods:

Over 10,000 RK procedures were performed under topical anesthesia.
Surgical technique involved 4, 8, or 16 incisions with a diamond knife, targeting a 3.0 mm central clear zone.
Variations in surgical technique, including redeepening microperforations, were explored.

Main Results:

Long-term follow-up revealed a tendency towards hyperopic shift.
Visual fluctuations were minimal or absent in the long term.
Complications such as infection, glaucoma, and cataract were infrequent.

Conclusions:

Radial Keratotomy demonstrated a stable long-term outcome with a hyperopic tendency and minimal visual fluctuation.
The procedure was associated with a low complication rate.
