Summary

Malignant germ cell tumors of the head and neck are rare and aggressive. This case report reviews a cervical embryonal carcinoma, highlighting the challenges in treating these rare cancers.

Background:

Malignant germ cell tumors (GCTs) are rare neoplasms originating from germ cells.
Head and neck GCTs represent a very small subset of these tumors, with limited data on their specific characteristics.

Observation:

This paper details a rare case of a cervical embryonal carcinoma, a type of GCT.
The clinical presentation and disease course of this patient are described.

Findings:

Malignant germ cell tumors of the head and neck exhibit aggressive behavior.
Despite aggressive multimodal treatment including surgery and adjuvant therapy, outcomes are frequently poor, often leading to fatal results.

Implications:

This case underscores the rarity and poor prognosis associated with head and neck malignant germ cell tumors.
Further research into optimal diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for these rare entities is warranted.
