Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of recombinant human interferon gamma in treating congenital osteopetrosis.
  • To determine if interferon gamma can enhance superoxide production and improve bone resorption in osteopetrosis patients.

Main Methods:

  • Eight patients with osteopetrosis received subcutaneous injections of interferon gamma (1.5 µg/kg) three times weekly for six months.
  • Evaluated changes in urinary hydroxyproline, urinary calcium, trabecular bone volume, bone marrow production, and leukocyte superoxide production.
