Background:

Postpartum sterilization is a common family planning method.
Laparoscopic techniques offer minimally invasive surgical options.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of immediate postpartum laparoscopic tubal sterilization using electrocoagulation and tubal separation.
To assess complication and failure rates associated with this procedure.

Main Methods:

Prospective evaluation of patients undergoing laparoscopic sterilization within five days of normal delivery.
Data collection on procedure timing, discharge status, complications, and pregnancy outcomes.

Main Results:

The majority of patients (53.5%) were sterilized within 36 hours of delivery, with 91.0% discharged on the same or first post-sterilization day.
Complications were reported in 9.5% of patients, with only 1.4% experiencing serious complications, most unrelated to the laparoscopic procedure.
The 6-month follow-up revealed a 2.9% complication rate, and one pregnancy occurred 3.5 months post-sterilization.

Conclusions:

Immediate postpartum laparoscopic sterilization is associated with low complication and failure rates.
The procedure can be safely performed in the early puerperium without significantly increasing risks.
This method provides an effective and safe option for permanent contraception following childbirth.
